Exhibition architecture of HDW by Järvi & Ruoho

Kaapelitehdas – the Cable Factory is the main venue for the sixth Helsinki Design Week exhibition, taking place 1-4.9.2010. In 1991 the Cable Factory was fully converted into a 53,000 square meter independent cultural centre aimed at providing an area of artistic diversity with multicultural links. Currently it houses theatres, museums, galleries, art schools and a plethora of different companies. Therefore it is a perfect headquarters for this year’s HDW, which is built around the concept of STORYTELLING.

ECODESIGN EXHIBITION Järvi & Ruoho are showing new edition of Ballroom luminaire

The second international EcoDesign Special Exhibition is set to present unique, ecological lights that have been specially designed for the exhibition. World-renowned lighting designer Ingo Maurer from Germany has been invited to be the curator of the exhibition.

Showroom Finland is launching cardboard-furniture designed by Järvi & Ruoho

Both the Echo Chair and the Alter Shelf are results of experimentation with a new recycled cardboard material called Re-board, still fairly unconventional in furniture design. In Echo, two machine-cut cardboard pieces interlock and form a sturdy structure. In Alter, numerous variable combinations created with two simple different sized boxes made with two illustrated cardboard sheets pile up to form a shelving system with fin-like parts locking the pieces together. The sturdy but lightweight material can be re-recycled as paper. The adhesives used in creating the sandwich construction are water based.

A light fixture, “BALLROOM”, will be on display in “Transit”- exhibition at Nordic Light Hotel during the Stockholm Design Week. The “Ballroom” is a giant luminaire that is changing its tone and shade, colouring the surrounding space. It is produced by SAAS and designed by JÄRVI & RUOHO.
